5 Great Free Money Apps

5 Great Free Money Apps 5 Great Free Money Apps 5 Great Free Money AppsIf you’re using apps all day every day anyway, why not make some money back from them? Not to bring up an overused topic, but the reliance on mobile devices is something we shouldn’t forget. Tech Crunch estimated back in 2017 that we use, on average, nine apps a day!Whether you spend your time scrolling Facebook or Instagram, constantly checking news or weather reports, or even playing Candy Crush, our mobile phones are basically our technological best friends. So have you ever thought about making money using apps on your phone? Not the scammy kind of apps that track your movements and sell your data to companies, but real applications that can actually help you make an extra buck (or a few hundred).1. EarnyEarny is a great way to make back money  that you’ve already spent if the price of an item goes down after you purchase it. It does this by monitoring price protection features on your credit cards. When prices drop after youve purchased something, you might be entitled to get the difference back! This app does need some of your personal data to function and it accesses your email to track receipts, but if you plan on making a big purchase this app could help save you hundreds of dollars.Heres an example: Lets say you spend $1000 on a camera bundle at Best Buy on Black Friday, using your Best Buy Card. Cut to a month later, and the price of that bundle has dropped by $250! When Earny spots that decrease, it will process a refund for that $250 back onto your Best Buy credit card.Earny does ask for 25 percent of what it saves you at the end of each month. But when utilized for those major purchases, you could still save a lot of money.2. DropWe asked one of our featured contributors from our article on focus groups for side hustling, Nick Loper  (@nloper), for his personal favorite free money app. Loper, chief hustler at  SideHustleNation.com, said that while he still enjoys using receipt scanning app Ibotta, his new favorite free mo ney app is Drop.“Theres no scanning receipts or searching for which items qualify,” Loper said. “You just connect your card and automatically earn extra cash back at the five stores you spend the most at. Its super passive, and I find that every few months, Ive earned enough for another $10 Amazon gift card. (Also there are no rules as far as I know against using both apps and stacking the deals).”Drop connects with your debit or credit card and when you make purchases at a few of your favorite places (that work with Drop) you rank up points that can be used to redeem gift cards.3. IbottaLike rebate redemptions of old,  Ibotta is basically the modern way to get rebates. After you make a purchase, if the item is listed as having a rebate on Ibotta, you scan your receipt and start collecting dollars back.Ibotta is listed third on ScottAlanTurner.coms  February 2019 article,  10 Free Mobile Apps That Earn You Extra Money Fast. It is also a favorite of Loper’s, while its as pa ssive an extra income as Drop, it’s still relatively easy to use.4. AcornsThis isn’t so much a “free money app as it is a money maker. Acorns rounds up your purchases to invest in a stock portfolio for you. You can passively have it just round up your purchases or you can invest amounts anytime using the app.Jeff Proctor (@DollarSprout), owner of financial advice website  Dollar Sprout,  said Acorns is one of his favorite found money apps because it’s such a great introduction to investing.“For example, if you go out on a date and the bill is $24.50, Acorns will round the purchase up to $25 and invest the 50 cent difference,” he said. “This app is great for someone who might think they don’t have enough money to invest, but knows that investing is important. By ‘finding’ small ways to contribute money without adding extra stress to your budget, Acorns helps you start to build your long term investing foundation.”Proctor also acknowledged one drawback to Acorns which does charge a monthly fee of between one to three dollars depending on the level of personal investment.5. AchievementReady to get paid for staying active? Achievement does just that! Hans Christian Andersen s The Butterfly - 1724 Words

Hans Christian Andersen’s tale, â€Å"The Butterfly† was published near the latter part of his career around 1862. At this point, his fairy tales and stories were no longer intended for children, and although this story could be told to children it has a sophisticated edge and meaning which is clearly intended for an older audience. On the surface this tale, number 111, is the story of a butterfly who wished to be married, but waited too long and ended up alone. It first appears that the point of the tale is a social one which refers to the pressure of society making a single man feel like he should be married. Yet, the interest of this tale is not the mere echo of society’s expectations for a young man, but how Andersen created in two and†¦show more content†¦He believes that the state of being ‘stuck’ must be like marriage. Clearly, this male butterfly could be seen as the symbolic representation of a young man who does not want to set tle down, has hyper-critical tendencies, or is just generally shallow like a stereotypical young man sowing his wild oats. It is stated that he wants a sweetheart, but that could just mean that he thinks he should have a girlfriend as a result of society’s pressure for young people to marry. Through his unwillingness or his character flaws, this young man seems to end up a bitter old bachelor consoling himself with the proverbial sour grapes. That overview is just the surface of this tale, and the multiple layers of the story start to come out in the flowers. Andersen had a background in folklore that is undeniable, and some smatterings of that knowledge along with a reference to botany is revealed when he speaks of the various flowers throughout the spring and summer. It begins with the camomile, also spelled chamomile, scientifically known as Anthemis nobilis, but also grouped with the similar plants of the genus Matricaria chamomilla both varieties are common in Eurasia (American Heritage Dictionary â€Å"chamomile†). That might not appear to be a crucial part of the tale, but it is probably a piece of information Andersen was familiar with since he referred to theShow MoreRelatedThe Life Of Stephen Schwartz3330 Words   |  14 Pageshaving one of the most significant careers in American musical theater for over four decades (Laird, 2014). Essay on Discuss Some Of The Main Ideas - 1711 Words

Sigmund Freud considered himself a scientist whose intention was to find a physiological and materialist basis for his theories of the psyche. Freud revolutionised the way in which we think about ourselves. From its beginnings as a theory of neurosis, Freud founded and developed psychoanalysis into a general psychology, which became widely accepted as the predominant mode of discussing personality, behaviour and interpersonal relationships. Freud, who had been studying neuropathology, left Vienna in 1885 to continue his studies in Paris under the guidance of Jean Martin Charcot. This proved to be the turning point in his career, for Charcot’s work with patients classified as â€Å"hysterics† introduced Freud to the possibility that†¦show more content†¦By the death instinct, Freud meant an urge to self-destruction and ultimately a universal impulse to return to an earlier state. The death instinct may express itself in potentially self-destructive behaviour such as taking increasing risks, drug or alcohol addiction and attempts at suicide. The death instinct might also be directed outwards in the form of aggression against others. Freud believed that every child is born with a variety of drives and instincts that require nourishment or stimulation. When there is conflict or deprivation of needs, anxiety and insecurity develop. Defensive manoeuvres are adopted to handle the stress, ultimately leading to maladaptive behaviour. These defences operate at an unconscious level and continue into adulthood. So according to Freud the main causes of behaviour disorders are childhood anxieties and the defences erected against them. Freud came to the conclusion based on his clinical experience with female hysterics, that the most instant source of resisted material was sexual in nature. His patients seemed to recall actual experiences of early seductions, often incestuous in nature. Freud’s initial impulse was to accept these as having happened but later concluded that rather than being memories of actual events, these recollections were the remains of infantile impulses and desires to be seduced by an adult, and it was this that was at the root of later conflict. Most human beings can recall very little of theirShow MoreRelatedA Critique on Freakonomics, A Nobel by Levitt and Dubner765 Words   |  3 Pagesand Dubner are purposing that the drop of crime is not because of the many popular ideas they address but instead because of abortions becoming legalized. Do the Right Thing Analysis Free Essays

Do The Right Thing, a movie directed by Spike Lee, filmed on a sunny summer day in a black neighbourhood in Brooklyn is what many consider a great movie. The movie portrays stories of many actors consisting from different palettes, where each has their own conflicts and struggles. It is a very entertaining movie yet it will leave you emotionally connected to the events that took place. We will write a custom essay sample on Do the Right Thing Analysis or any similar topic only for you Order Now It would not have reached its current success if it wasn’t for the unique cinematography. In the coming sections I will be talking about the shots, angles, lighting styles, symbolism and colour. Realism The realism of this movie is pretty clear, where Spike Lee was trying to convey the physical reality of the black people who live in a culturally diverse network. There were several characters in the movie and each had his own story, the flow of the, jumping from one character the other gives the feeling that there is no manipulation of the story, it’s the real deal and this is how things roll in Brooklyn in a timeline of twenty-four hours. Another reason why this movie is linked to realism is because of the moral issues, where for example there would be a sensitive scene about a scene, that speaks for itself and it is interpreted by the audience in their own way. Do The Right Thing may be also be considered as a classic since there was a focus on telling a great story but no that of one character but many, and each had his/her own charisma. It is the type of movies where you would want to go back over and over again to watch it. Shots Spike Lee is known for his perfect shots where he uses different lens to give the movie a distinguishing look. The movie varied from long shots, medium, close up and extreme close up. That is shown from the beginning of the movie where the woman was dancing and it almost included all of the shots mentioned above. Throughout the movie the technique of including various shots were constantly being used and were applied to all the characters. Figure 1A Extreme close up Figure 1B Close up Figure 1C Medium shot ` Figure 1D Long shot Figure 2A Extreme close up Figure 2B close up Figure 2C Medium shot Figure 2D Long shot The figures shown above are just two examples of many where different shots are being taken of the. In Figure 2a- 2b we have an example of the camera creating an extreme close up, pulling back going through the close up, medium shot to reach the long shot, and then moving horizontally to show the neighbourhood. This technique was used constantly. I think the meaning behind this technique is to make the movie as seem as realistic as possible. Spike Lee focused on the main characters individually and then pulls backed to create a long shot to show that character’s place in the neighbourhood, which adds realism to the setting. Angles. In Spike Lee’s Do the Right Thing, he set up his camera in different positions and shot at different angles. A low angle is when the subject is being filmed from below. I believe that this angle gives the subject superiority and makes him look powerful. Figure 3 Figure 3 is a scene where Radio Raheem was ordering pizza with his stereo being played and Sal was telling him to turn it off. Raheem looked intimidated so the low angle shot adds to the intimidation. In my opinion this was perfect since Radio Raheem was a character that everyone is afraid off and the more intimidating he looks the better. I also think that it added a little spice to the end, because these constant shots of Raheem give a bigger impact on the audience when he dies. In contrary to low angle shots, high angles are taken from above. The camera is placed above the subject facing down. This type of shot is to make the subjects appear insignificant and it gives a general overview of the scene Figure 4 Mother Sister Trauma. High angle view. The scene in Figure 4 is just before the end of the movie where Sal’s restaurant was burnt down because he was blamed for Radio Raheem’s death. These incidents gave Mother Sister a trauma. I would not say that the high angle shot makes her insignificant, but it would rather make her look threatened by the general overview scene, that the high angle shot achieves. The violence ends with this scene, which in my point of view is a very dramatic one. Mother Sister is the lovable person, everyone looks up too her but she was screaming like a lunatic, then the high angle shot of all the destruction around gives a dramatic ending to that scene. There were many eye level shots taken in the movie. An Eye level shot is when the subject is being filmed near eye level. What I think Spike Lee was trying to do with these eye level shots if to put the audience in the same footing of the characters. The bird eye view is the shot taken overhead. It makes people in the scene look small. Figure 5 Bird eye shot, final scene. An example of a bird eye shot is shown in Figure 5, the final scene. This scene is one of the most important of the movie. The movie visualises a 24 hour timeline, so all the incident s that happened, from waking up to burning Sal’s kitchen happened in one day, which in my opinion is a lot of activity in a neighbourhood. This final scene that makes the neighbourhood appear to be god like is amazing, after all the violence that broke down, it seems like nothing happened. People are playing basketball; DJ love daddy is talking about a new subject ignoring what happened last night. Every day is a new page for this people. Oblique shots are shots taken at a tilted angle. Straight lines become diagonals which gives a shot an overwhelming feeling in an unstable world. Figure 6A Oblique shot, Mayor Figure 6B Oblique shot, MotheSister The conversations between the Mayor and Mother Sister where taking at an oblique angle. I think the reason behind this is to highlight the unstable an unbalanced relationship between them. Lighting styles The movie took place on a hot day in summer, since it is a story about a movie about one day, lighting is going to change from bright in the morning, brighter in the afternoon, less brighter at sunset, night which is dark and finally the next morning. There was a lot of emphasis on how it was really hot, so it is important that the brightness to stand out. Spike Lee kind of showed us how hot it is. There was a scene where could see the heat waves surrounding the tree old men on the sidewalk. The lighting in the riot scene in the end was great, it was very realistic and it captured the audience emotionally, especially those who have memories of such riots. Symbolism I believe that there was a lot of symbolism in the movie; in fact each character symbolized something, of the struggle in a black neighbourhood. For example, Sal and the Korean symbolize the irony of them taking more money from the black community more than the businesses of the blacks themselves, and they do not live in the neighbourhood. The mentally challenged guy and the pictures of Marter L. King and Malcom X are connected, where there is a double grief, first is on the guy himself, I think people felt sorry for him, and the second grief was the reminder of Malcom X and Martin passing away, both these factors probably affected the audience emotionally. Buggin’out wants African Americans on the wall in Sal’s restaurant; Radio Raheem is blasting off fight the power song. There are many others symbols in this movie and the nature, location and story it requires these symbolisms, that adds al little spice to movie and affects the audience emotionally. Colour Like the lighting the colour helps us associate to the weather. Different tones ranging from orange, red, and yellow were used. These colours can also be interpreted in the characters emotions. The main colour was red to emphasize that it is hot. He uses other colours in calmer place such as in Mookie’s girlfriend’s room, which was blue. I believe that Spike Lee sis a good job in playing around with colours Conclusion Do the right thing is a movie that gets you to think. You get laughs out of it some others cry. The techniques used in the movies are the reason why it is considered to be a successful movie. The way he portrayed the black community struggling from the different scenes and characters will leave an impact on whoever watches the movie. How to cite Do the Right Thing Analysis, Papers

BUS300

BUS300-20: Decision Making Essay Class: BUS300-20: Decision Making Essay Assignment Description: For this assignment think of an important business decision you have made in the past in which the results of your decision turned out poorly. Your manager is concerned and wants to make sure that you learned from this mistake and the likelihood of this happening in the future is minimal. Therefore she would like you to email her a reflective analysis about that decision. Be sure to address the following in your analysis: 1.Describe the decision and its relative importance to you as the decision maker. (1 paragraph) 2.Use three different theories associated with this units resources and readings to illustrate your decision making process. (3 paragraphs). 3.Compare and contrast your understanding of judgment and/or decision making using these three different theoretical approaches.(3 to 4 Paragraphs) 4. What does this imply about our understanding of how to make judgments and decisions? (1 to 2 Paragraphs). 5.How will knowledge of this analysis help you to make better decisions in the future? (1-2 paragraphs) 1.Describe the decision and its relative importance to you as the decision maker. The decision was made when I was a Production Supervisor. Quality of product was getting much attention due to many customer complaints as a result many standards were put into practice. In an effort to reduce the customer complaints, all employees were expected to follow the new standards. Even though the standards were in place we received yet another complaint. I was able to trace the complaint to an individual and although, according to the documentation all the standards were followed, I concluded that the paperwork was erroneous. I disciplined the employee with three days off without pay however, the disciplinary action was used more an example to the rest of the workforce as opposed to an attempt to change the employees behavior. 2.Use three different theories associated with this units resources and readings to illustrate your decision making process. First, I made assumptions regarding the honesty of the individual. This judgment was context dependent in that it was made relative to the data available and the behavior of his co-workers. My conclusion that this person was dishonest was derived from assumptions and the contrast effect. Second, in my attempt to eliminate risk, the certainty effect of the prospect theory was exercised. The information available led to the decision to reduce to probability of recurrence. A result of the probability of an outcome by a constant factor has more impact when the outcome was initially certain that when it was merely probable. (Tversky Kahneman, 1985, Plous, 1993, p. 99) Third, I feared what would happen if nothing was done. What would my employees think? Am I a pushover? Will more complaints occur? In order to avoid these questions and any resulting regret the decision was made based on the regret theory (Plous, 1993 p.101). 3.Compare and contrast your understanding of judgment and/or decision making using these three different theoretical approaches. My understanding of the judgment was based on the surrounding context. The baseline for the behavior of the employee was determined by a reference point, being the conduct of his co-workers. Second, even though the probability of another complaint was not reduced I naively chose work with the available data and assumptions. I would have liked to get more of an objective picture. Third, I needed to understand the full implications of the decision. In this case my fear of how my actions would be perceived outweighed the real issue and what truly needed to be done to correct it. In fact the regret theory probably had the strongest effect in that I believed that making an example of an individual would ensure good behavior from his co-workers. 4.What does this imply about our understanding of how to make judgments and decisions? Stress induces judgments. In this decision my stress was created by the need to do something to stop complaints. This judgment was made on assumptions and incomplete information which leads to potentially moral and ethical implications. 5. .u9c83015cce7743ba5f1d72c482928afe , .u9c83015cce7743ba5f1d72c482928afe .postImageUrl , .u9c83015cce7743ba5f1d72c482928afe .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u9c83015cce7743ba5f1d72c482928afe , .u9c83015cce7743ba5f1d72c482928afe:hover , .u9c83015cce7743ba5f1d72c482928afe:visited , .u9c83015cce7743ba5f1d72c482928afe:active { border:0!important; } .u9c83015cce7743ba5f1d72c482928afe .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u9c83015cce7743ba5f1d72c482928afe { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u9c83015cce7743ba5f1d72c482928afe:active , .u9c83015cce7743ba5f1d72c482928afe:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u9c83015cce7743ba5f1d72c482928afe .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u9c83015cce7743ba5f1d72c482928afe .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u9c83015cce7743ba5f1d72c482928afe .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u9c83015cce7743ba5f1d72c482928afe .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u9c83015cce7743ba5f1d72c482928afe:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u9c83015cce7743ba5f1d72c482928afe .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u9c83015cce7743ba5f1d72c482928afe .u9c83015cce7743ba5f1d72c482928afe-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u9c83015cce7743ba5f1d72c482928afe:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: A Raisin In The Sun Essay PromptsHow will knowledge of this analysis help you to make better decisions in the future? Essays" redirects here. For other uses, see Essays (disambiguation). John Locke's 1690 Essay Concerning Human Understanding. An essay is a short piece of writing which is often written from an author's personal point of view. Essays can consist of a number of elements, including: literary criticism, political manifestos, learned arguments, observations of daily life, recollections, and reflections of the author. The definition of an essay is vague, overlapping with those of an article and a short story. Almost all modern essays are written in prose, but works in verse have been dubbed essays (e.g. Alexander Pope's An Essay on Criticism and An Essay on Man). While brevity usually defines an essay, voluminous works like John Locke's An Essay Concerning Human Understanding and Thomas Malthus's An Essay on the Principle of Population provide counterexamples. In some countries (e.g., in the United States), essays have become a major part of formal education. Secondary students are taught structured essay formats to improve their writing skills, and admission essays are often used by universities in selecting applicants and, in the humanities and social sciences, as a way of assessing the performance of students during final exams. The concept of an "essay" has been extended to other mediums beyond writing. A film essay is a movie that often incorporates documentary film making styles and which focuses more on the evolution of a theme or an idea. How A Report Writing Course Can Tame Big Data

How A Report Writing Course Can Tame Big Data Once upon a time, there was a warning was that big brother could be watching. Well, today big data is doing his job. Big data is everywhere all the time. Gartner, the information research technology and advisory company posits: Big data is high-volume, high-velocity, high-variety information assets that demand cost-effective, innovative forms of information processing for enhanced insight and decision making. Wikopedia pipes in with: data sets so large that traditional data processing applications are inadequate. If computers need help making sense of big data, pity the person charged with writing a report summarizing the results. Big data is creating a culture in which businessand IT join forces to realize value from data. Companies make decisions based on big data but first it has to be visualized and translated into a report that can communicate the results to key decision makers and ensure they understand it. Communicating Big Data in a Business Report Since reports are one of the most important forms of written communication in the business world, the key is to find someone who both understands the brave new world of big data and also has a knack for the type of clear concise writing a report calls for. However raw talent is not enough. Skills needed for report writing, like the ability to differentiate the essential from non-essential, organizational judgment, and clarity of communication, are acquired more often than inherited, it's a good ideal that the person charged with the task first attend a report writing course. Basic Insights Language and layout are important if a report is to be accurate and understandable. No matter whether it is a scientific report, financial report, research or medical, there there are a few basic insights of good writing to keep in mind. A well-written report..... anticipates the readers' questions. In order to accomplish this, the writer should periodically review what he is writing and attempt to see it from the point of view of a reader, especially one skeptical about the world of big data. is like a good teacher. It strives to explain the facts is like math. It has logic and structure. It takes a pile of facts and assembles them into a clear accessible, understandable structure. is simple. Simple is not to be confused with simplistic. Big data is complicated. A skilled report writer knows how to deconstruct it and make it comprehensible. avoids jargon. The world of big data is full of its own language. A good report uses accessible language. A Few Well Put Words of Advice These tenets can be applied to any type of writing, but as with any written undertaking, preparation is the key. In the case of big data, it involves sifting through the facts. For a few words of advice on this who better to look to than Albert Einstein ? "Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." - Albert Einstein While all data is important, only essential data needs to be included. Writing a report calls for self-editing, especially when dealing with data. It is easy to become overwhelmed by the amount, but understanding what's important to the business can help decide what to include and what to leave out. "If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough." - Albert Einstein No matter how well the report writer understands the findings, he is essentially keeping them to himself if he can not communicate them to those reading the report. If they are to act on his insights, he has to simplify the message so that it resonates with them. Since today's business world feeds on information, report writing is an essential and marketable skill. Film Review - Essay Example Plot The film ultimately narrates the production of Meet Pamela, a passe melodrama that stars Jean-Piere Aumon who is the aging movie icon, Valentina Cortese, Jean-Pierre Leaud and Jacqueline Bisset who is a British actor. It is evident from the film that Jacqueline Bisset who plays as Julie Baker in film, is recovering a nervous collapse as well as the controversy that leads her to marry the doctor who is much older. In between the film, there are various small vignettes. They include chronicle of the crewmembers stories and Truffaut who is the director of the film, faces with the numerous practical problems that a person faces when making a film. The film portrays that behind the cameras, the crew and actors go through many sorrows, break-ups, affairs and romances. The event that particularly shakes up the production is when the fiancee to Alphonse abandons him for the stuntman in the film and this leads him and Julie to have a one-night fling. The production is also shaken up when a car suddenly kills Alexandre and one of the supporting actors is discovered to be pregnant (Truffaut, 1986). The cast consists of Jacqueline Bisset who plays as Julie, Jean-Pierre Aumont plays Dani as Liliane, Valentina Cortese who plays as Severine, Alexandra Stewart who plays as Stacey, Alexandre, and Jean Champion plays as Bertrand. Nathalie Baye plays as Joelle, Jean-Pierre Leaud plays as Alphonse, Francois Truffaut is the Director of the film and he plays as Ferrand, David Markham plays Doctor Nelson whereas Zenaide Rossi plays Gaston’s wife as Madame Lajoie. The other theme is about the many illusions that are involved in both the actual movies as well as in filmmaking. It is also shocking to learn that Truffaut who is the director of the film started his noble career as a champion of cinema being an art form and as a film critic. Ferrand is shown in a scene where he opens a book package, which he had ordered. The books were on various directors that he admires who include Robert Bresson, Roberto Rossellini, Ernst Lubitsch, Jean-Luc Godard, Alfred Hitchcock, Ingmar Bergman, Carl Theodor Dreyer and Luis Bunuel (Truffaut, 1986). Graham Greene who is a film writer plays the role of an insurance company representative who is known as Henry Graham in the film. It has been reported on the movie’s DVD cover that Greene gr eatly admired Truffaut’s work and he was looking for an opportunity to meet him

Aeschylus and the Oresteia Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Aeschylus and the Oresteia - Essay Example In order to clearly depict this play writer divided it into three elements including the society, courts and the norms of the society. In the play the characters insist on the need to suffer in order to obtain truth and justice in the society. This play depicts a society that has been living on misery for a long period of time especially during the Trojan War that brought with it a murderous house of Atreus1. The play depicts the continued violence that has been experienced in the country and at the end of it is women and children that are harmed. This is attributed to the fact that being a society that is driven mostly by the norms of the society, women are forced to be submissive in all aspects and events that happen in the society. They are left homeless, without food and psychologically tortured by the aftermath of the war. For instance in the play, Agamemnon had to sacrifice his daughter Iphigenia some ten years ago in order to advance his political interests. This depicts a soc iety that views the female gender as a lesser being and one that has to suffer in order for the male gender to prosper. Orestes also killed his own mother in order to revenge against the killing of Iphigenia. The play therefore questions the intentions of the two characters when they decide to murder their close relatives in order to fulfill their personal interest This is a society that is strongly tied together by the belief in the different gods they have and do not have to go against what they say as it is valued as the absolute truth. For instance the two characters who murder their closer relatives attribute this to the requirements of their gods an issue that could not have been accepted by the legal setting of a country. Several symbols and metaphors are used in the play to depict the varying characters of both the society and the individuals in it. There is the use of the solar and lunar cycles, day and night and the storms. People who are not human in the society have been animated and are referred to as beasts in the play. Blood crimes are on the increase in the play an indication of how the society values the idea of shading blood as a form of sacrifice to their gods2. The sad part of the play is that those that are mostly killed are the women and children an indication of a society that suffers from a poor sexual orientation. There is a belief that blood has to be paid back with blood an indication of sacrifice and this makes them never to reach a decision between what is wrong and right. This resulted in a conflict between the new and old gods since with civilization people started to adopt a new form of religion in which they would worship only one supreme God. This is because primitive laws always demanded blood vengeance as a form of punishment yet this was not the case with the form of justice which insisted on the rule of law. This created a conflict of interests between the traditionalists and modernists and there was an increase in rates o f murder and those that were mostly murdered were the modernists who adopted law as a form of justice. The play is therefore a product of the classical Greece in the sense that the writer went ahead to come up with the use of two characters in a play as opposed to the initial use of one character. This brought with it a richer interplay between the speech and action. Initially most of the plays had a main theme as one of tragedy but with time he began to shift his interests by writing on political standings and how they had an effect on the state. This was best depicted through the Oresteia play that combined a transition from a society that believed in bloodshed to one

The Positivism And Interpretivism Philosophy Essay

The Positivism And Interpretivism Philosophy Essay The book of Business Research Methods gives me guidance for how to do business studies and how to carry out research project. In the first part of the book tells me the relationship between theory and research, in the detail its a explain of how to combine the theory and research during the business studies process. (Page: 4) 1a. What is meant by epistemological considerations? Epistemological concerns the study of knowledge and what constitutes acceptable knowledge in a field of study? Epistemology is a kind of using the same principles, procedures, and ethos as the natural sciences study to explore the nature of human knowledge, structure, the relationship of recognizing the objective reality, the premise and basis of knowledge. The position that affirms the importance of imitating the natural sciences is invariably associated with an epistemological position known as positivism. (Page: 15) 1b. Explain in concrete terms the differences between the so-called positivism and interpretivism? Positivism: (Page: 15-1.7) Positivism is a kind way of epistemological position that claims to use the natural sciences methods to study and beyond of reality society. In the book, there are some principles of using positivism. Positivisms principles: 1. Only phenomena and hence knowledge confirmed by the senses can genuinely be warranted as knowledge (the principle of phenomenalism). 2. The purpose of theory is to generate hypotheses that can be tested and that will thereby allow explanations of laws to be assessed (the principle of phenomenalism). 3. Knowledge is arrived at through the gathering of facts that provide the basis for laws (the principle of phenomenalism). 4. Science must (and presumably can) be conducted in a way that is value free (that is, objective). 5. There is a clear distinction between scientific statements and normative statements and belief that the former are the true domain of scientist. This last principle is implied by the first because the truth or otherwise of normative statements cannot confirmed by the senses. Interpretivism: (Page: 16) Interpretivism is a term given to a contrasting epistemology to positivism. It is necessary for the research to understand differences between humans in our role as social actors. There are differences between conducting research among people rather than physical objects. To enter the social world of our research subjects, understand their world from their point of view. (Page: 16) Interpretivism arose as scientists felt that human beings were not puppets to react to stimuli in a prescribed manner. They were active and purposeful and can respond to stimuli in different ways depending upon their interpretation. Interpretivists describe human beings as having intent and the power to interpret;they say that human beings have the capability to construct their surroundings rather than being a mere spectators to what is happening around them. These scientists stressed the thinking, intentions and behaviors of human beings more than positivists thereby drawing conclusions that were more realistic and perhaps more valid also. Interpretivists talk about shared consciousness as the brain behind many of the concepts in a society. 2a. What is meant by ontological considerations? Ontological considerations: (Page: 20) Questions of social ontology are concerns with the view on nature of reality, the study of nature of existence. The core question of this part is whether the social entity can and should be considered objective entities which have the truth external to social actors, or whether they can and should be considered social constructions built up from the perceptions and actions of social actors. (Bryman 2004: 16) These positions are frequently referred to respectively as objectivism and constructionism. 2b. Explain in concrete terms the differences between objectivism and constructionism? Objectivism: (Page: 21 1.13) Objectivism is an ontological position that asserts that social phenomena and their meanings have an existence that is independent of social actors. It implies that social phenomena and the categories that we use in everyday discourse have an existence that is independent or separate from actors. Constructionism: (Page: 22 1.14) Constructionism is an ontological position (often also referred to as constructivism) which asserts that social phenomena and their meanings are continually being accomplished by social actors. It implies that social phenomena and categories are not only produced through social interaction but that they are in a constant state of revision. Objectivism and constructivism is diametrically opposite assumptions about reality, mind, thought, meaning and symbolism. The objective belief is that the world is real. The reality is the external awareness. Since it is sees the world as real it assumes that learners have the same understanding of this reality. The reality can be structured model to guide a learner. Constructivist perspective requires learners to create their own reality based on his experiences and views. The constructivist point that not a reality. Because the reality is a product of personal views and experiences are unique individuals many reality can exist. The objectivism think the role of the mind as a processor of abstract symbols thought of as symbols of the builders of the Constructivist perspectives. Objectivism sees the role of the mind as a processor of abstract symbols while constructivism views the mind as a builder of symbols. Relationship of epistemology and ontology to business research (Page: 23) Every science has its own ontology, epistemology and consequently its own methodologies. So when the business research Ontology defines the fundamental categories of reality. Domain ontology as distinct from formal ontology is related to focus of study. Each research field has its own ontology. Epistemology defines how we can know and reason that reality. The methodologies of each of these two scientists have followed as different systems of investigative techniques within their focus of study. They use different scientific methods studying different domains with different epistemology and ontology.

I Have a Dream by Martin Luther King Essay

â€Å"I have a dream† was a speech delivered on August 28, 1963 by Martin Luther King in Lincoln Memorial Washington D. C. Martin Luther King’s role or position in his speech is that of an illustrator, or a mediator of peace and equality. He becomes one of those people who have seen the light and wanted to share this light to those other individuals who are still in the dark. He wanted or dreamed of a community wherein racial discrimination is no longer an issue. His ideal community is where everybody is free, no biases for either black or white people nor black or white community. He is in a position as to persuade the people to become more vigilant in watching their freedom and in receiving or wanting equality and justice. He also wanted each and every people to understand that one’s freedom or destiny is bound to the other. Because of this, he wanted everybody to properly exercise civil rights and must not prevent people from using this privilege. Generally, the intended audience of the speech is the black people, and also those who are not such as the white people, but are living with black people or in black communities. However, everybody can read or listen to his speech or statement because of the underlying principles included in his speech and his dreams or ideals can be utilized or preferred as a model for civil rights. â€Å"I have a dream† greatly inspires and effectively infuses its point of view to its audience, transforming dreams into reality and despair into hope; we dream of being free, and we become free because of this dream. Martin Luther King was prompted to write or make the statement or speech because of the continuing slavery that entangles each and every people, especially for the black people or communities. In addition to this, the belief and treatment or actions of the black people against the white people had alarmed the author to write or make this speech to the public. According to Martin Luther King, the slavery of the black people may have been released or abolished because of the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. However, nowadays or 100 years later, this freedom from slavery is still ambiguous and it does not exist. In addition to this, Martin Luther King believes that there are still a lot of people who are experiencing police brutality and social discrimination. In addition to this, he thinks that the rights and privileges which were given to the people, especially the black people, is not properly implemented or received by the black communities. Martin Luther King takes on the affirmative side or in favor for equality amongst the black people and also the white people. He clearly shows or supports his stand through several examples and emphasis on his words or statements. Martin Luther King claims that every individual should learn to respect and give what is right to their neighbors. He is aware that there are people who are still suffering beyond the hands of law. He reasons this out by giving examples of those who were misunderstood, brutally beaten indiscriminately and provides logic as to why dreaming is an important part in one’s body. Martin Luther King is qualified to be a speaker or author of such paper because of his records and performance not only as a politician but also an individual who greatly cares for justice and freedom. I believe that the assumptions, ideas or claims of Martin Luther King are correct and good, with some deviances especially through the use of audio, video or format or instructions at more school. He was able to provide examples of real life situations where the civil rights of an individual becomes hindered. In addition to this, the audio and video formats are very much entertaining and at the same time, inform the audience of the predicaments of equality or justice in nations or communities. However, there are some claims or dreams which are somehow impossible to attain such as complete equality and freedom from prejudice from all countries or states. Being able to read Martin Luther King’s work, my perspective before to ignore claims and evidences and become settled in what the community gives me, had greatly changed. As such, the degree of my trust towards Martin Luther King did increase due to his great speech which is definitely eye-opening. The author has refutations that include the fulfillment of his dream or conditions in order to achieve a country, state or community. He also refutes the fact that freedom is already complete. The refutations made by Martin Luther King are really effective. In addition to this, he uses great emphasis on his words and greatly touches the sympathy of those who are listening to his speech. He was able to clearly state his dreams, one after the other and manage to state options or categories which would fulfill his dreams. His last statement â€Å"Free at last! Free at last! † gives hopes and restore the faith which people have for change and better living. As an individual who had already received the light from Martin Luther King, my desire for helping other people and providing equality or non-biased reactions had increased. My hopes for a better communication and media for spreading the word of the real scenario on freedom and equality also increased because of the persuasive message or speech delivered by Martin Luther King, Somehow, a part of me already wants to do something in order to help and at least be able to create balance within communities. In addition to this, his metaphor of a ring, representing one goal, and fingers representing the people, is really amazing and in reality lightens my belief. I thought that we are already saved, but the paper of Martin Luther King had taught me well. The Great Gatsby Comparison

Throughout the winding plots of love triangles in both The Great Gatsby and The Sun Also Rises, Lady Brett Ashley and Daisy Buchanan play strikingly similar and diverse roles. While the two novels engage towards the same theme of the American Dream and the Lost Generation, they also follow drama induced romances around the two idolized women who create each main conflict. The many lovebirds that mindlessly trail their woman of their dreams eventually run into sticky situations and character fallout.Although this situation occurs in both The Great Gatsby and The Sun Also Rises, the individualities and characteristics of Lady Brett Ashley and Daisy Buchanan differ in their own enchanting way. Daisy Buchanan from The Great Gatsby written by F. Scott Fitzgerald and Lady Brett Ashley in The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway are similar in the sense that they are both the main motives in each novel and mutually cheat on their partners, but also contrast in which Brett holds emasculation o ver the men in the story while Daisy remains more socially conservative. The building of the plot in both novels depends on the two main women who warp the lives of each character they come in contact with. In The Great Gatsby, Daisy is the main motive for Gatsby as he consistently does all he can to win her devotional love. Nick advises Gatsby to go away in order to avoid trouble with Myrtle’s death, but he refuses, as he â€Å"couldn’t possibly leave Daisy until he knew what she was going to do† (Fitzgerald 148).
